Forget the Barkside. I love dogs, but they’ve got nothing on Bueller. … Bueller. … Bueller.
There may be some great surprises out there between plays on the Super Bowl broadcast. There may be ads that are hilarious, clever, leave lasting impressions. But none, not one, no matter how well done, can top Honda’s CR-V commercial with Matthew Broderick bringing back Ferris Bueller. (Sadly, though, he doesn’t return with Cam.)
Broderick looks great and channels his old character perfectly, skipping out on a day of acting work to have some fun Ferris-style.
Already up on youtube, this bit of genius will bring viewers back. With a little luck, it’ll make the younger viewers want to check out “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” And for some responsibility-laden adults, maybe it will kick in that need to call out sick and have some fun.
“Life moves pretty fast….” after all. Don’t miss it.
All of that said, I really, really wish I hadn’t already seen it. This would have been the hands-down hit on Sunday night, a Super surprise that would make the night a success no matter the score or halftime show set. Now the only question is, will they run the extended spot – nearly 2 1/2 minutes – in its entirety at once or spread out or in an abbreviated, edited version.
With so many commercials leaking and previewing online, there is a definite letdown factor for the commercial breaks. Oh well, more time to get snacks, I guess.
Next year, how about a nice game of chess?
And don’t play it til Sunday, please.
