Second quarter Super Bowl commercials

OK, here we go again:

I liked the old-fashioned Budweiser commercial about Prohibition ending, with the dalmations and the Clydesdales and the crazy-happy people, although some of those folks looked as if they were dressed for a different time period, earlier than 1933. Guess we have to give them some creative leeway.

Dog lovers may have enjoyed the Doritos spot, but this cat (and dog) lover was kind of turned off by the idea that the big dog had killed and buried the family cat. How appetizing. (Others in the room liked the later baby-in-a-slingshot Doritos spot, but me, not so much.)

VW’s spot about the pudgy dog who got into shape to fit through his doggie door and have an adventure was well received at this Super Bowl party, although there was some confusion about the “Star Wars” bar scene at the end. Some people thought it was a separate commercial. I knew better, because I’d written about it and watched it earlier this week when VW released it. Don’t think it topped last year’s Darth Vader spot, but we all liked it here. Even those of us who were a little confused  by it.

By the way, I went to godaddy.com to see just how bare-skinned that Brazilian model was in the Internet only version. Was very glad to see she was at least wearing a bikini. Godaddy’s ad campaigns are about getting attention, and they succeed on that score. Not my kind of ad, though.

The Chevy ad created by a contest-winner (kid thinks his parents got him a car for graduation, but turns out he got a compact refrigerator) was cute.

Could David Beckman’s ad for H&M have been any more provocative? OK, guess it could have — on cable. But not on network TV.

Teleflora’s ad was pretty racy, too. “Guys, Valentine’s Day is simple. Give….and you shall receive.” It’s a far cry from guys, make sure to remember your mom on Mother’s Day.

Loved the Mr. Quiggly Skechers commercial. So glad that he replaced Kim Kardashian.

Isn’t it a remarkably dog-centric Super Bowl this year?
