Fourth Quarter Super Bowl Ads

Love, love love Matthew Broderick’s “Ferris Bueller” parody for the Honda CRV. This was a case where I had seen it before, but was definitely looking forward to watching it again. Broderick was terrific, as usual. Anyone who remembers him as Ferris, or who caught him years later as Leo Bl00m on Broadway in “The Producers,” knows he’s really good at comedy.  Only wish they had gotten Ben Stein into the commercial.

Could have lived without Hyundai’s guy in passenger seat seems to drop dead (only to be brought back by the driver’s maneuvering of the car) spot.

Have to say, if NBC’s promos for “Smash” don’t get a big audience to tune in Monday night, the network may be beyond redemption. I hope the show does get a big turnout, because “Smash” is a very engaging series. So far, I’ve watched four episodes — and I’m addicted. But will America agree? NBC has a lot riding on this.

Bud Light “Here We Go” ad with Wego the beer-fetching dog was cute. I especially liked the “Help Rescue Dogs” tag at the end.

What about the careerbuilder.com spot? It does have a deja vu feel to it, and animal activists have been protesting this commercial, claiming that it exploits chimpanzees. They argue that the job site should have used computer-generated chimps instead. If such commercial-making truly harms them, then I’d agree. But I have to admit, I never tire of seeing misbehaving chimps in suits.

Game over. Go, Giants!!!!!

As for the Super Bowl ads, I wish I had kept track of the number of dogs in the ads this year. They seemed to outnumber celebrities this year. Did anyone out there count the canaines? Let us know.

And please tell us what you thought of the spots. Was it a winning year for them, as well as the Giants?
